A longtime presence in the North Carolina community, David Joyner serves as the senior pastor of First United Methodist Church - Rocky Mount. He provides spiritual care to 1,300 church members while overseeing organizational elements, including finances, family ministry, and preschool. David Joyner also holds appointed responsibilities on the Bishop's Cabinet and serves as the superintendent of the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church (NCCUMC) Heritage District. In this position, he supervises local pastors and extension ministries across 51 churches.
Dr. Joyner has held various roles with NCCUMC over the years, including serving as a member of the Finance and Administration Council. He has also served on the District Board of Building and Location.
He attended NC State University in Raleigh, where he completed an undergraduate degree in leadership with a focus on the public sector. He completed his master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees at Duke University in Durham.
